Kafka's Amerika
A physical theatre production at St Mary's University, Twickenham,
London.Inspired by the cartoonist Robert Crumb and Chaplin's film "
The Immigrant", this adaption of Franz Kafka's novella "Amerika"
explored the ambivalence of the American Dream and the strife and struggle
of the immigrant in Kafka's fictionalised but resonant depiction of
turn of the century America. As well as making use of a visual and visceral
style of acting, words from Obama's campaigning speeches were segued
seamlessly into Kafka's uncharacteristically optimistic closing lines.
